Finalizó el Campeonato del Mundo Qatar 2015 para los equipos de Panamérica tras lograr, por segunda vez en la historia, que dos representantes de nuestro continente avancen a la segunda ronda. En Egipto 1999, Cuba y Brasil lo habían logrado. En ese Mundial, los cubanos terminaron 8º, mejor posición histórica para Panamérica en Adulto Masculino.
El Grupo A tuvo a dos equipos de nuestro continente: Brasil y Chile.
Los brasileños lograron el pase a octavos de final gracias a sus victorias ante Bielorrusia y Chile y caer ajustadamente ante Qatar (por cinco goles), España (apenas por dos) y Eslovenia (por tres). Los tres equipos que derrotaron a Brasil lograron meterse entre los ocho mejores del torneo.
Para los chilenos, la historia fue más complicada. Se despidieron del Grupo A cayendo en todas sus presentaciones, más allá de tener buenos pasajes ante Qatar y Brasil. En la Copa Presidente, cayeron por un gol con Irán y se impusieron en los penales a Argelia, en la disputa por los últimos dos lugares del torneo terminando 23º.
Argentina cayó en el denominado “Grupo de la Muerte”, junto a Dinamarca, Polonia, Rusia, Arabia Saudita y Alemania.
El debut no pudo ser mejor, logrando empatar con los daneses, subcampeones del mundo. Derrotas ajustadas ante polacos y alemanes y un claro triunfo ante los saudíes hacían clave al choque con los rusos. En el mejor partido de los argentinos, lograron superar a Rusia y avanzar cuartos a octavos de final.
Los octavos de final tuvieron a Brasil y Argentina enfrentando a dos candidatos al título en Qatar.
Los brasileños hicieron uno de los mejores partidos posibles ante Croacia y merecieron la victoria. Pero la experiencia y el oficio del equipo croata prevaleció y logró la victoria por un ajustado 26:25.
Diferente fue la historia con el equipo argentino. Emparejado con el rival europeo que más lo conoce y con el que más veces jugó, desde el inicio no tuvo chances y cayó claramente por 33:20.
Se fue Qatar 2015 para Panamérica con un 12º lugar para Argentina (repitiendo su mejor posición histórica conseguida en Suecia 2011), la 16º colocación para Brasil y el 23º escalón para Chile.
El próximo desafío para los equipos de la región serán los Juegos Panamericanos de Toronto, en los que estará en juego una plaza para los Juegos Olímpicos de Río de Janeiro 2016, para los que ya está clasificado Brasil como organizador.
2015 Qatar World Championship ended for Panamerican teams after achieving, for the second time in history, that two representatives from our Continen advance to second round. Group A had two teams from our Continent: Brazil and Chile.
Brazilians made it to eight-finals after winning against Belarus and Chile and losing closely with Qatar (by five goals), Spain (just two goals) and Slovenia (by three). All three teams that beat Brazil got between the eight top teams of the tournament.
For Chileans, the story was more complicated. They farewell Group A losing all their matches, besides playing well with Qatar and Brazil. During President’s Cup, they lost by one with Iran and won in penalty shoot-out to Algeria in the fight for the last two places of the tournament ended 23rd.
Argentina was placed in the “Death’s Group” longside Denmark, Poland, Poland, Saudi Arabia and Germany.
Debut couldn’t be better, achieving a tie with Danish, WC runner-up. Close losts against Polish and Germans and a clear win against Saudis made match against Russians a key one. In the best match of the Argentinians, they beat Russia and advanced to eight-finals.
The eight-finals had Brazil and Argentina facing candidates for the title at Qatar.
Brazilians played one of the best possible matches against Croatia and deserved victory. But the experience of the Croatian team was too much and won by a close 26:25.
Different story for Argentinian team. Leveled up with the European team that knows them the most, from the beggining there werer no chances and lost 33:20.
Qatar 2015 ended for Panamerica with a 12nd plae for Argentina (repeating their best historical position achieved in Sweden 2011), the 16th place for Brazil and the 23rd position for Chile.
Next challenge for the teams of the region are the Panamerican Games in Toronti, in which on spot for 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro will be played. Brazil, as host, is already qualified.
